Finishes & Maintenance

What finish options do you offer?

We offer Natural Oiled and UV-Stained (Varnished) finishes, as well as Brushed and Textured surfaces for added character.

How often should I clean my hardwood floors?

Sweep or vacuum regularly with a soft-bristle brush. Use a slightly damp microfiber mop for deeper cleaning — avoid excessive water or harsh chemicals.

Can I use steam mops or wet cleaning systems?

No. Steam and excess water can damage both the finish and the wood. Always use dry or lightly damp methods.

How do I maintain oiled wood flooring?

Reapply maintenance oil as needed (every 12–24 months depending on traffic). Small scratches or dull spots can be repaired locally without refinishing the entire floor.

Can I refinish Northenest floors?

Yes. Both solid and engineered floors can be sanded and refinished depending on the wear layer thickness. Consult your installer or retailer for specifics.

Installation & Preparation

Can I install Northenest floors myself?

Yes, if you’re experienced with flooring installation. However, for best results, we recommend professional installation — especially for glued or nailed applications.

How should I prepare the subfloor?

The subfloor must be clean, dry, level, and structurally sound. Moisture content should be tested before installation, especially for concrete substrates.

Can I install engineered wood over radiant heating?

Yes. Our engineered hardwood is compatible with most radiant heating systems. Always follow the installation guidelines and maintain temperature and humidity stability.

Should the flooring acclimate before installation?

Yes. Acclimation allows the wood to adjust to your home’s temperature and humidity. Generally, leave the boxes unopened in the room for at least 48–72 hours before installation.

Can Northenest floors be installed in basements?

Engineered and vinyl options are suitable for basements. Solid hardwood is not recommended below grade due to moisture sensitivity.

Performance & Environment

Are Northenest floors environmentally friendly?

Yes. Our products are sourced from responsibly managed forests and manufactured under strict Canadian environmental regulations.

Do your floors contain VOCs?

No. All Northenest finishes are low-VOC and compliant with Canadian indoor air quality standards

Will my wood floor change color over time?

Yes, wood naturally matures and develops a richer patina with light exposure. This is part of its natural beauty.

Can humidity affect my floor?

Yes. Wood expands and contracts with changes in humidity. We recommend maintaining indoor humidity between 35–55% year-round.

Product & Material

What types of hardwood does Northenest offer?

We offer a wide range of engineered, solid, and vinyl flooring, available in various species such as oak, maple, and hickory. Each collection is crafted for beauty, stability, and long-term durability.

What’s the difference between engineered and solid hardwood?

Solid hardwood is made from a single piece of wood, while engineered hardwood has multiple layers for enhanced stability. Engineered floors perform better in varying humidity and are ideal for condos, basements, and radiant heat installations.

Are Northenest floors made in Canada?

Yes. All our flooring is proudly manufactured and finished in Canada following rigorous quality and environmental standards.

Do wood grades affect durability?

No. Grades only determine visual characteristics like knots and color variation — not strength or performance. Every grade we offer meets the same durability standards.

Can I get samples before buying?

Absolutely. You can request samples through our retailers or directly from our website to see colors and textures in your own lighting.

Warranty & Support

What kind of warranty does Northenest provide?

All floors come with a limited residential warranty covering manufacturing defects and finish performance. The duration and coverage vary by product line — see our Warranty Page for details.

Does the warranty cover installation errors?

No. Warranties cover product performance, not installation-related issues. Always ensure installation follows Northenest’s guidelines.

What if I notice an issue after installation?

Contact your retailer immediately. Our team will review the case and work with you to find a solution in line with warranty terms.

Can I register my warranty online?

Yes. Registering your warranty online helps ensure faster service and record-keeping for future support.
